First Aid for Dental Issues

We recognize that an immediate dentist appointment isn’t possible for some people. So as a public service, we’ve provided a couple of steps you can do to temporarily remedy some common dental and oral health issues. However, we recommend you set up an appointment with your dentist as soon as possible.

  • Rinse Tooth With Warm Water to Clean Out Any Debris.
  • Use Over-the-Counter Pain Relievers as Directed.
  • Use Dental Floss to Remove Debris Trapped Between Teeth.
  • If swelling is present, place a cold pack on the area, do not place aspirin on your gum, and call your dentist for an emergency appointment.
  • Rinse Area Gently With Warm Water to Remove Debris.
  • Place Cold Compresses on the Injured Area.
  • Save the broken part if available and call your dentist for an emergency appointment.
  • Rinse Tooth Gently in a Cup of Warm Water to Remove Debris.
  • Reinsert the Tooth Immediately.
  • If not possible, go to the nearest dentist to have the tooth re-implanted within 30 minutes.
  • Apply Direct Pressure to the Area With a Clean Cloth.
  • If Swelling is Present, Place Cold Compresses.
  • If Bleeding Continues, Go to a Hospital Emergency Room.
  • If the wire is causing irritation, push the wire away with a pencil eraser or cover the end of the wire with a cotton ball or wax.
  • If the wire is embedded in the cheek, do not attempt to remove it and visit your dentist immediately.
  • If an appliance gets loose or a part breaks, take the appliance and any broken part to your dentist for evaluation.
